Reflections – Let Your Imagination Fly

The arts—and the National PTA Reflections program—support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in your school community. Celebrate arts learning in your school community with Reflections.

National PTA Reflections welcomes all grades and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Annually, thousands of students will reflect on a common theme and create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.

The theme for the 2015-2016 school year is Let Your Imagination FlyThis theme—created by Rachel Sperry of Northwood, N.D.—was selected through the Reflections Theme Search Contest. When asked what inspired her theme, Rachel said, “I tell myself to let my imagination fly when writing and sketching.” The theme helps Rachel to explore her imagination and she hopes it will inspire others to be creative. Join the search for a future theme by entering the annual Theme Search Contest.  (

View this email in your browser

We had a great meeting last week and were thrilled to see a number of new faces! Be sure to check out the meeting minutes as they contain the complete meeting details and will be voted on for approval at our next meeting on January 19th.

A highlight of the meeting was discussion of creating an After School Activities Committee. An overwhelming amount of survey participants were interested in after school activities for students and we’re excited to make that happen — but we need your help. Please consider signing up for the After School Activities Committee. We’ll need a variety of volunteers to make this happen. If you have a special talent you’d be willing to teach the kids, we’d especially love to hear from you.

We also kicked off our Fall Fundraiser which we are super excited about but we still have a long way to go. Please be sure to share the pledge form with family and friends. Remember, students raising the most funds will earn prizes! The current leading students have $185 in pledges. Total pledges submitted as of 10/7/15 is $930.00. You can also sign up for our year round fundraisers like Stop and Shop, Target Red Card and more.

Also, don’t forget to send in your Room Parent/Phone Tree sign up forms if you’d like to be included in the Phone Tree for your students class. Phone Trees are used by teachers and Room Parents when planning classroom celebrations and special events. We’ll be drawing room parents at the October 30th Science Night. if you have not received the form yet, you should shortly.

News from the Principals Office:

  • STAR assessments in reading and math have been completed. Intervention letters will be going home this week.
  • The Warwick Beacon will be publishing the “Student of the Week” for each grade level (K-6) beginning in November.

Upcoming Events in October

  • Monday, October 12 School Closed (Columbus Day)
  • Friday, October 30th 6pm Science Night/Trunk or Treat

Volunteer Opportunities!
Whether you have 15 minutes or a 15 hours we can use your help.

We are thrilled to have 91 PTA members so far this year, including most of our teachers. It’s a great show of support for our school and our students! And, of course, it’s never to late to sign up.

A thank you created by our Hospitality Committee for the Norwood Custodial Staff! They were very surprised and appreciative!

We’d love to see more photos of our students from fun PTA sponsored events on our website, Facebook page and these newsletters. Because we take student privacy very seriously, we won’t post pics of your child without express permission. If you’re interested in having photos of your student included when & where possible, please take a moment and fill out our permission form.
